Steve is a leader in the Retail Practice in North America and drives our work in growth and corporate finance. He helps retailers define and implement a wide range of growth strategies, including organic growth, multichannel extensions, acquisitions, and international expansion. He works across retail categories, from small-box specialty to big-box stores.
Much of Steve's work helps retailers effectively manage across a portfolio of growth options. In one recent project, he worked with an apparel retailer to develop a growth strategy that included prioritizing and sequencing investments across new channels, new partnership business models, and new international markets. Steve has also supported retailers in their efforts to grow through mergers and acquisitions, helping them to define an overall strategy, screen potential acquisition targets, and plan post-merger integration.
Steve has published on a range of retail growth topics, including international growth, multichannel retailing, and how retailers should think about mergers and acquisitions. Before he joined McKinsey in 2005, Steve was a private-equity associate in Washington, DC. In this capacity, he was responsible for executing leveraged-buyout transactions and working with management teams to find new sources of growth and value in their companies.
