Advises organizations across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa on corporate restructuring, transformation, turnaround, cash and working capital management, capability building, and mindset and culture change

With more than 12 years of experience in delivering turnaround, corporate restructuring, and transformational change across Australasia and the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region, Sam currently advises executives, boards, and private-equity owners across industries including hospitality, consumer goods and foods, health, and transport. He believes that business transformation is most effective when underpinned by a balance of rigorous performance management, mindset and behavioral change, and building new employee capabilities.

Sam is a UK lead and accredited facilitator for McKinsey’s Ability to Execute suite of capability-building offerings. He delivers capability-building facilitation to organizations across EMEA in most industries.

Examples of Sam’s recent experience include the following:

  • leading the transformation of a distressed multinational flower-breeding company, delivering significant uplift in EBITDA
  • managing the working capital workstream for a multinational lighting company
  • leading the transformation of a multinational medical-technology company, including oversight of workstreams spanning manufacturing, operations, commercial, G&A, people, and organization
  • leading the transformation of a multinational transport business, with oversight of the operations, G&A, and procurement workstreams
  • advising on the turnaround of a large franchisor of quick-service restaurants in Asia–Pacific, delivering annualized EBITDA uplift and operational and working-capital improvements across the franchising division, food service, bread-and-cheese processing, and coffee-roasting facilities
  • serving as content expert for a commercial due diligence for the private-equity acquisition of a division of a global professional-services firm
  • managing the turnaround for the receivership of a multinational flat-pack furniture manufacturer and distributor

Before joining McKinsey, Sam held senior transformation roles in performance-improvement management consultancies. Sam is a board committee member for the Turnaround Management Association, where he drives thought leading, education, networking, and connectedness across the corporate restructuring, turnaround, and transformation ecosystem. Additionally, Sam is a chartered Accountant with Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand, holds a Lean Six Sigma Green belt through the University of Technology, Sydney and is a qualified project management professional through the Project Management Institute.

Sam has a passion for the water and is a master scuba-diver trainer and instructor with Project AWARE, a not-for-profit ocean and marine-conservation organization. He delivers transformational experiences for new scuba divers as he introduces them to the underwater world.
