Who are you?

My name is Anniken. I’m a business analyst from Oslo. I joined McKinsey one year ago, after graduating from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology with a MSc in computer science and economics. Outside work, I love sports, especially football. We have a football team in the Oslo office that practices once a week. Most McKinsey offices have football teams, so when I’m working abroad, I try to join the local team.

In addition to sports, I am passionate about entrepreneurship. Together with a couple of colleagues, I co–founded the McKinsey Startup Club in Oslo. We regularly support Norwegian startups as they tackle their most important challenges.

What is special about the Oslo office?

It is quite small office (~70 consultants) compared to the other offices I have visited. Because of this, we get to know each other very well. We do a lot of fun things together – parties and sports as well as professional things like trainings, hearing speakers, etc. We are going to climb a 4000–meter summit in the Swiss Alps this summer.

Do you have a feel–good Friday tip?

The breakfast in the office on Fridays is delicious. Waffles, cinnamon buns and other sweets – yum! Every Friday morning, I go to the gym so I can eat as much as I want when I get to the office. It’s a great way to end the week.

What inspires you?

The people with whom I work. Every day, I am surprised and impressed by my colleagues’ incredible achievements. Olympic medalists, authors and entrepreneurs – it is amazing how much I learn from them.

What music makes you feel motivated?

Disney music is one of my guilty pleasures. I find some of the Disney movie songs, such as “I’ll make a man out of you” from Mulan, extremely motivating.

How did you make a difference this week?

This week, I supported a startup company that develops personalized cancer vaccines. It felt really great to contribute to such an important issue.

What’s your favorite app?

Audible (audiobooks). It’s great when travelling. On the train, in the car or at the airport, I can always listen to a good book.
