Join us on the morning of October 23 for a hands-on masterclass led by leading practitioners in their fields.

The choice is yours

Pick the masterclass that most aligns with your interests. These optional sessions will run concurrently from 11.00to 13.00 at the same venue as the main conference, the Grosvenor House Hotel.

How Behavioural Science Can Raise Our Game and Transform Our Working Lives

Advances in behavioural science are giving us an ever better understanding of how our brains work, why we make the choices we do, and what it takes for human beings to be at their best. But it’s not always obvious how to make good use of this fascinating science. In this hands-on masterclass, Caroline Webb will highlight simple everyday steps that leaders can take to sharpen their team’s performance culture—and lift their own performance.

Caroline is an economist and former McKinsey partner who specialises in this translation of behavioural research into practice—and she has worked with hundreds of leaders and organisations to help them improve their professional effectiveness and well-being. She is the author of an acclaimed book, How to Have a Good Day: Harness the Power of Behavioral Science to Transform Your Working Life.

Cybersecurity Leadership

Every week brings media coverage of another massive data breach. Ransomware is bought and sold easily on the Dark Web. Customers are concerned. Board members are asking questions. How should executives proceed? This masterclass will answer the question by focusing on proven management practices, tools and techniques that underpin a business-back approach to cybersecurity.

Experienced practitioners from McKinsey’s Cyber Solutions team will take participants through hands-on exercises, including a simulation, to underscore the importance of prioritisation, planning and preparation. The session will cover how organisations can measure their digital resilience, identify and prioritise critical assets for protection and investment, build leadership capabilities to respond to an attack, and make build-or-buy decisions related to cybersecurity.

The Art of Storytelling

Framestore is an Oscar-winning creative studio that brings extraordinary ideas to life through craft, imagination, and technology. In this masterclass, Framestore cofounder and chief creative officer Mike McGee and creative director Resh Sidhu will share their insights into how the company has evolved to work with groundbreaking technologies such as virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR).

The session will incorporate hands-on demos of Framestore’s latest work as well as behind-the-scenes videos, project anecdotes, and step-by-step creative challenges. Mike and Resh will share some of their most important learnings to date and explain how best to apply such knowledge to your own work in order to master the art of these emerging technologies in an ever-changing landscape.

Unlocking Your Leadership Potential

Leadership is a key enabler of organisational performance. Organisations performing in the top quartile on leadership effectiveness outperform others by nearly 2x on EBITDA. However, more than 50% of executives say that their leadership development interventions do not work. In this masterclass, McKinsey senior partners Michael Rennie and Claudio Feser, and expert associate partner Nicolai Nielsen, will start by presenting four core principles that can flip the odds of success.

The second part of the masterclass will feature a deep and personal experiential session led by Aberkyn, McKinsey’s partners in transformational leadership. Aberkyn works with leaders to increase their ability to embrace change and to renew continually. Its approach encourages leaders to move outside their comfort zone and beyond their fears and to develop a vision that fosters courage and unleashes energy.

Advanced Analytics for Improved Performance

From data lakes to machine learning, every large organisation is investing in advanced analytics. Yet few are achieving the results they want. Led by practitioners from QuantumBlack, a pioneer in the field, this masterclass will separate hype from reality and give participants the tools they need to unlock sustained performance gains.

From its roots in Formula 1 motor-racing, QuantumBlack has applied analytic techniques to help organisations tackle challenges ranging from fraud detection to increasing returns on R&D by optimising the composition of engineering teams. This breadth of experience gives the team a unique vantage point to understand the success factors behind successful applications of advanced analytic techniques and how organisations can scale analytics across the enterprise.
