About Harold

At McKinsey, there are always exciting and challenging problems to solve and a community of wonderful colleagues dedicated to driving impact for our clients.

I have had three roles at McKinsey. I joined initially as a summer business analyst during college, then after business school I returned as an associate. In each case, I decided to join and re-join the firm for the same fundamental reasons: a desire to work with truly distinctive, fun, and values-driven people—both colleagues and clients—to have meaningful impact with clients in industries I care about, and to accelerate my development as a leader and problem-solver. Throughout my McKinsey career, I have found all of this and more!

Developing the toolkit

At the beginning of my career, I honed my “consulting toolkit” by working with a broad range of clients to solve their most fundamental strategic issues. My client projects included helping a large urban school district improve student performance, a global pharmacy retailer transform its operational performance, a low-cost airline define its value proposition, a consumer products manufacturer reorganize its global finance function, and a hotel chain re-capitalize its business to improve market performance. It was incredibly energizing to roll up my sleeves and work with amazing teams and clients to solve such challenging problems.

Following my passions

Using these experiences as a base I started to focus on “shaping my McKinsey” around my professional passions. I am passionate about consumer companies, so I serve consumer packaged goods and retail clients, primarily on growth strategy and merger-related topics. I am passionate about seeing my clients and teams succeed, so I am involved in McKinsey’s formal professional development programs, as well as informal coaching. I am also passionate about using our problem-solving approach and resources to have lasting impact through pro bono projects, so I contribute significant time to supporting Atlanta organizations (primarily in education) through board service and special projects.

I’ve found that at McKinsey there are always exciting and challenging problems to solve, and a community of colleagues dedicated to driving impact for our clients. Today, five years after being a summer associate, I am still at the firm thanks to wonderful teams, dedicated mentors, and committed weekend warriors across our Southern offices.
