Junior Specialist, Material EconomicsStockholm

I got to try my dream job before graduating and could confirm that I really enjoyed the work, the environment, and the colleagues.

About Saga

Saga joined as an intern in 2021 and returned as a Junior Specialist in Material Economics in August 2022. She has a background in engineering and sustainability management from KTH Royal Institute of Technology.

Why did you choose to apply for an internship at Material Economics?

As soon as I saw the Material Economics website and the reports on circularity and sustainability, I knew that this was where I wanted to start my career, and not applying was out of the question.

What type of work did you do?

I had such a warm welcome and got thrown into my first project 30 minutes after arriving, working as any other junior specialist—but with more guidance. The first project included setting science-based targets and modeling the impact of difference abatement actions in Excel. In the second project, we analyzed the market for a significant investment in sustainable technology.

What has been the most valuable learning during your internship?

The most valuable learning was getting a first-hand experience of the kind of work we do at Material Economics, and how our teams function. I got to try my dream job before graduating and could confirm that I really enjoyed the work, the environment, and my colleagues.

Did the internship meet your expectations?

Yes. At Material Economics, I was immediately part of a project team and truly felt part of the company instead of a temporary sideliner.

What has been the best thing about being an intern at Material Economics?

I loved getting to know all the great people and feeling included. It was also great to learn so much every day, both through my engagements and by talking with someone during lunch.

Any final words of advice for students considering an internship?

Apply. You have nothing to lose and possibly a lot to gain.
