Why did you choose to apply for an internship at McKinsey?

While I’ve always had an idea of what my passions are, an internship at McKinsey allowed me to really test this out. The variety of McKinsey's projects allowed me to work on both highly technical as well as strategy projects.

What type of work did you do?

During my internship, I got to work on two very different but equally exciting projects. The first project was related to the COVID-19 response within the public sector, where we evaluated the COVID-19 response strategy. The other project was focused on digital business building in a high-tech industrial company, where we helped our client identify the use cases and business potential of a newly developed technology.

What has been the most valuable learning during your internship?

I think the few weeks of internship taught me more about what I wanted to do in the future than what years at university did.

Did the internship meet your expectations?

The internship exceeded my expectations by far. Even though I was an intern, I was given similar responsibilities as a full-time Junior Associate and was entirely part of the team. From day one, I was invited to calls with the most senior client stakeholders and was responsible for my workstream.

What has been the best thing about being an intern at McKinsey?

Being an intern at McKinsey gives you the full experience of working as a consultant. This is something I think is unique and allowed me to make an informed decision on where I wanted to start my career.

Any final words of advice for students considering an internship?

Don’t put too much pressure on proving yourself and be open-minded. Remember that an internship is supposed to be an opportunity for you to see what it is like working at McKinsey and learn more about your interests and passions.
