Why did you choose to apply for an internship at McKinsey?

After trying out widely different industries and spending time abroad, I knew I wanted to find a dynamic workplace where no day would be the same. My impression of McKinsey had been that the firm offered stimulating projects across borders, but I wanted to do an internship to see hands-on if this was true. It was.

What type of work did you do?

I had the opportunity to work in Sweden and abroad through two different projects. In the first project, we created a business strategy for how a private equity portfolio company that was active in technology and sustainability could reach its full potential. The second project was conducting a due diligence of a global advanced industry company’s future market potential.

What has been the most valuable learning during your internship?

How to become super skilled at identifying and prioritizing the work that will have the most positive outcome and tangible impact for a client.

Did the internship meet your expectations?

The internship exceeded my expectations, as I was treated like a full-time colleague from day one. The level of trust I was given was thrilling—I was expected to directly interact with the project leadership and the client during presentations.

What has been the best thing about being an intern at McKinsey?

The welcoming openness and diversity of the organization—I worked with people from across the Nordics and beyond on my projects, and felt I learned something new every day.
