Engagement Manager

At McKinsey, I’ve gained perspective on my personal and professional purpose, the importance of delivering for our clients, staying true to the values I care about, and maintaining a more balanced life.

Choosing McKinsey

While completing my master’s degree in Rotterdam, I interviewed with multiple companies. McKinsey stood out as the most fascinating place to work for a few reasons: its global reputation, the diverse client work, and its mission to solve tough challenges. But what truly convinced me to choose McKinsey was the people I met during the interview process; they were incredibly smart, friendly, and supportive.

Rewarding, meaningful experiences

Since joining McKinsey in 2013 as a business analyst, I have worked in numerous countries throughout Western and Central Europe. I serve mostly tech, media, and telecom clients. In my current role, I divide my time among meeting clients, problem solving with experts in our firm, and coaching teammates. McKinsey has a dual mission to achieve long-lasting impact for clients and to develop people. It is very rewarding when a client says, “Thank you; I couldn’t have done it without your support,” or when a junior colleague circles back and says, “Your feedback helped me become a better consultant.”

Work-life balance

At McKinsey, I’ve gained perspective on my personal and professional purpose, the importance of delivering for our clients, staying true to the values I care about, and maintaining a more balanced life. I have started to become more mindful of how I allocate my time during the day among family, health, work, friends, and hobbies. In my free time, I seek quiet—whether in a good book or the outdoors. I am big fan of hiking. This time off restores my energy and motivation; it is important to balancing a successful and fulfilling career.

Take time

With sponsorship from McKinsey, I took a 2-year education leave to pursue an MBA at the London Business School. During this time, I also fulfilled some longtime dreams: to travel around the world; explore a new industry (travel and hospitality); and get married. My wife and I made a lot of friends and great memories during this period. And I returned to McKinsey after graduation to continue my journey in the firm.
