About Vijay

Vijay has over 25+ years of deep management and leadership experience with expertise in digital & analytics transformations, financial institutions and payments, talent development, and board service, risk and governance.

  • Digital & analytics (D&A) transformation. With a computer science commercial and academic background, he is passionate about tech-enabled transformations and new business models. An active leader within McKinsey Digital, he is focused on driving D&A and AI in companies, working closely with cloud hyper-scalers. He also edited and co-wrote a widely read compendium on advanced analytics in banking, and has served on McKinsey’s Technology Committee.
  • Financial institutions and payments. Vijay has served a broad range of financial institutions including global banks, payments, and data services companies.  Issues have included core strategy, transforming operating models, and go-to-market execution.  He co-led the Global Payments Practice, and is a frequent author, launching and editing McKinsey on Payments, and hosts widely-attended monthly sessions with fintech leaders. 
  • Talent development. He has a long track record of developing talent, serving on global committee to elect Senior Partners and currently on the committee to elect external Partners.  He founded and leads the McKinsey Talent Network, which develops high potential individuals.  He is also a member of McKinsey Alumni Committee and lead for McKinsey’s 15,000 alumni network in North America.
  • Board service, risk and governance. Vijay has frequently worked with corporate boards and helped global CEOs through transitions, crises, mergers, and other major events.  He co-founded and co-led McKinsey’s Global Risk Management Practice, and was a trustee of McKinsey’s Retirement Trust.   He also serves as MIT Sloan School Executive Board Member and as Catholic Charities of New York Trustee and Co-chair of the Agency Relations Committee, which advises on $800m in services in the metropolitan NY area.

Outside McKinsey, Vijay is an Executive-in-Residence at the MIT Sloan School. He has a long history of pro-bono involvement including helping create the NYC CEO Jobs Council, establish the RED campaign to combat Global AIDS, advise the September 11 Memorial and Museum, and support New York City post 9/11.
