Uwe leads of our enterprise risk management work globally and a coleads the firm's Financial Services Practice in Europe. He works with clients in a broad range of industries, with a focus on advising financial and industrial companies on compliance and risk-management issues.
Uwe has served clients in Asia, Europe, and North America. He has lived in Boston and New York and has been splitting his time between Cologne and Singapore since 2006. Recently, he has led two major restructuring efforts at European banks, helped a large Indian bank improve its capital-management practices, conducted bank-wide stress tests for leading financial institutions in Europe and Asia, supported companies in building strong compliance and control frameworks, and helped financial institutions define and implement risk-appetite frameworks.
Prior to joining McKinsey, Uwe worked for several banks in Europe and the United States. He holds an MBA equivalent from the University of Cologne, a masters degree in international management from the Community of European Management Schools, and a doctorate in business administration from the European Business School.
Uwe has written a number of books, as well as articles for management journals. He is a contributor to the 2012 edition of The strategic CFO: Creating value in a dynamic market environment and to the McKinsey Working Papers on Risk series. In addition to his work at McKinsey, Uwe lectures on banking and risk management as an honorary professor at the University of Konstanz in Germany.
