About

Steve leads McKinsey Implementation’s organization hub in North America and is a core leader of McKinsey Accelerate, which focuses on helping clients deliver sustainable impact through systemic transformations. In these roles, Steve is also deeply involved in shaping how we deploy our knowledge, tools, and expertise in ways that allow the firm to work side by side with clients on multiyear transformations while delivering an optimal client experience.

As an advisor to senior executives, Steve draws on his deep expertise and experience in change management, capability building, and execution. He is particularly passionate about identifying and helping to shift the specific mind-sets and behaviors that hinder performance through innovations in change management and the “science of learning.”

Steve’s work involves helping CEOs and their senior leadership teams craft bold and enduring aspirations to rally their organizations and architect multiyear transformations. This typically involves helping clients develop change stories that build conviction, addressing the structural and process-related changes required to lock in change, designing adult-learning journeys, and standing up strong execution engines to help ensure disciplined delivery.

Examples of his recent client work include the following:

  • running a 2-year performance transformation for a government agency that resulted in 30 percent gains in frontline productivity, sustained for 8 consecutive quarters
  • leading the implementation of an ambitious productivity program at a large energy company with a deep focus on building continuous-improvement capabilities and shifting damaging mind-sets that hindered collaboration
  • delivering a program to rebuild a government agency’s end-to-end hiring process, reducing the time to hire by 60 percent
  • developing and leading a multiyear organizational transformation for a government agency to drive core mission outcomes
  • directing a program to rebuild a government agency’s risk assessment and communication function, including building agile and design thinking capabilities

Steve first joined McKinsey after business school at New York University. And, after 3 years serving more than a dozen clients on a variety of issues, joined a global entertainment company in a strategy role. He then returned to the firm to help build McKinsey Implementation, which is now a core component of McKinsey Accelerate. He is a native of Puerto Rico and a fluent Spanish speaker.
