About Stefan

Stefan joined McKinsey in 1992 and has served clients in the German, London, Swiss, and New York offices. He has been the managing partner of McKinsey’s global Business Technology Office from 2007 to 2014 and is also a core leader of McKinsey’s Global Banking Practice. Since 2004, he is a member of the board of MIO Partners, McKinsey’s investment firm.

As part of New Ventures, Stefan leads our alliances, partnerships, and acquisition strategy.

Throughout his time with the firm, Stefan has focused on the financial services industry where he has helped clients in defining their corporate and business unit strategy and organization, and on industrializing and digitizing their businesses, designing their operating models, and, increasing their operations productivity with lean optimization.

For technology users across industries, he has helped them develop their IT strategies, define their organizations, and implement innovative IT sourcing models.

With respect to software and services, Stefan has worked for several major IT service providers, addressing a range of topics from operations and productivity improvement to market entry and portfolio strategies.

Prior to joining McKinsey, Stefan received a PhD in information systems, and was designated a Doctoral fellow of the Society for Information Management. He also worked for IBM in the area of commercial expert system development. Stefan is fluent in German and English, and has conversational ability in French.
