Richard joined McKinsey in 2013 specializing in rapid, and sustainable performance improvement (RTS). He has led turnaround plans for a number of hospitals in both the private and public sector which yielded significant savings in terms of both cost and efficiency.
Richard brings over 17 years of experience in board, operational, restructuring, and advisory roles. He has operational experience principally in the transportation, retail, telecom, healthcare, and media and entertainment sectors. He has held a number of officer and board positions across Europe in both restructuring and steady-state scenarios. Richard has successfully completed restructuring processes in a number of regulated and unionized industries across many European jurisdictions.
His restructuring experience prior to joining McKinsey includes:
- serving as interim managing director of a division of one of the world's largest helicopter operators
- serving as restructuring project manager and advisor of one of the largest and most complex restructurings in Irish history
- serving as restructuring officer and director for a telecommunications company in Greece
In his earlier career, Richard was chief financial officer of a privately owned international business services company and chief restructuring officer of the Thorn Group, a private equity-owned retailer providing domestic electrical goods and furniture under rental and rent-to-own agreements across five countries. He spent two years as a credit analyst at Intermediate Capital Group and seven years in PwC Transaction Services practice.
He is a qualified chartered accountant (ICAEW). In 2011 he was nominated for the IFT Turnaround Rising Star.
