Leads McKinsey’s energy practice in Central Europe

Mladen Fruk is a partner in McKinsey’s Central Europe office specializing in oil and gas downstream and marketing. With extensive experience advising oil and gas companies including majors, independents, and NOCs, as well as consumer companies in Western and Central Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, he focuses on strategy, organization, and corporate finance. Mladen is a key figure in McKinsey’s global marketing and trading service line within the Oil & Gas Practice, as well as the leader of McKinsey’s energy practice in Central Europe. His guidance extends to multiple retailers, FMCG, and private equity companies on transactions and strategy.

Some of his recent work includes the following:

  • Spearheaded numerous financial and commercial due diligences in grocery retail, fuel retail, and FMCG across the UK, Canada, Scandinavia, the Netherlands, Germany, and Central and Eastern Europe for leading global private equity companies, alternative investments players, and leading industry players
  • Orchestrated deal structuring, conducted detailed value creation assessments, created business plans, and shaped the investor story for a merger of two global grocery retail giants, generating a combined revenue exceeding USD 45 billion
  • Framed the investor story and led integration planning and execution for a merger of equals, establishing an independent oil and gas company in Europe
  • Developed a suite of performance optimization initiatives at a major oil and gas company, including the strategic realignment of the retail portfolio
  • Directed a program for a leading global renewables player, enhancing fuel margins in the Northern Europe and the Baltics while expanding their global renewables offering in the US, Asia, and Europe
  • Formulated a comprehensive downstream strategy for a major Middle Eastern NOC by evaluating the strategic fit and financial benefits of entering new retail markets globally through both organic growth and M&A
  • Designed an exhaustive jet fuel strategy for an oil and gas major, analyzing supply-demand dynamics in 100+ micro-markets (airports) in Europe, and developing a detailed go-to-market strategy encompassing pricing optimization, infrastructure access, and renewed customer propositions.
