About Mike

Mike is a senior expert in McKinsey’s Electric Power & Natural Gas Practice, and is based in our Houston office. His areas of expertise include gas gathering, pipelines, distribution, liquid natural gas (LNG), liquid petroleum gas, natural gas liquids, and natural gas vehicles (NGVs).

Mike has served natural gas clients in more than 40 countries, helping them to develop growth, regulatory, sourcing, midstream, and trading strategies. His recent projects include:

  • advising a large North American energy company on market-entry strategies in inland compressed natural gas (CNG), LNG, and mini-gas-to-liquids, including an evaluation of growth, acquisition, and partnering options
  • supporting a national oil company in developing an NGV strategy to monetize small pools of domestic stranded gas
  • working with an American national oil company to develop a regulatory structure and approach for natural gas in a liberalizing market
  • assessing NGV opportunities for a large European oil and gas company
  • helping a large Asian private-equity firm evaluate LNG and CNG opportunities in transportation in North America.

Mike is a regular speaker on market dynamics and emerging trends in the gas sector at industry conferences and events. Before joining McKinsey in 1990, he spent 10 years in the natural gas pipeline and gathering industry, where he worked on market planning and research, sales, transportation and exchange, supply, management information systems, finance, and accounting.
