About Michael

Michael leads McKinsey Digital Labs (MDL) in Asia–Pacific. He has over 20 years of professional experience in the technology, media, and telecommunications sector.

Michael is passionate about understanding the business impact of disruptive technologies. His areas of expertise include advanced analytics, artificial intelligence, big data, cloud technologies, the Internet of Things, the mobile Internet, augmented and virtual reality, and other cognitive technologies.

In his role in leading MDL, Michael oversees a team of over 300 digital experts and professionals, including user-experience experts, user-interface designers, product owners, agile coaches, scrum masters, product-delivery managers, enterprise and solution architects, as well as data architects, engineers, and scientists. MDL helps clients accelerate digital transformations and build new digital businesses through a combination of advisory and hands-on implementation support.

Michael advises senior executives across the world on a wider range of issues related to digital strategy, transformation, operations, and technology. He has also taken on interim management roles with several of our clients, including leading new digital businesses. His advisory focus includes new business incubation and digital-business building, full-company digital transformation, growth and innovation strategy, product and experience design, rapid process and journey digitization, mergers and acquisitions, agile transformation, and leadership and change management. Outside of McKinsey, Michael is an active angel investor in early-stage technology companies and he is a regular speaker at technology-focused conferences.

Prior to joining McKinsey, Michael was a PhD researcher in computer science focused on Internet and related technologies, working with several companies, including Telstra, Global Telesystems, Belgacom, and Belgium’s Interuniversity Micro Electronics Centre.
