Partner, Washington DC
Drives strategy-setting initiatives to help aerospace and defense companies evaluate growth options, control costs, and improve operating performance

About Melanie

Melanie offers advisory support to aerospace and defense manufacturers and other advanced industrial companies and service providers. Working as a partner to executives, she seeks to improve performance and strengthen competitive position, including by adjusting business models to pursue growth.

With more than a decade of consulting experience, Melanie has particularly strong expertise in guiding business and operational transformations, setting growth strategy, pursuing design-to-value plans, optimizing supply-chain management, and improving product development.

Examples of her recent client work include the following:

  • setting design-to-value and sourcing strategies, including implementing design and sourcing initiatives to meet cost targets on a new program launch, for an industrial manufacturing company
  • developing a digital strategy that spanned both revenue-generation and efficiency improvement opportunities and included operating-model changes required to capture value for an aerospace and defense company
  • directing an affordability strategy and transformation effort for a major aerospace company that successfully closed a 30 percent cost challenge spanning overhead, direct labor, and material costs
  • creating a growth and technology strategy, including assessing technology differentiation and required investments, for an aerospace and defense company
  • guiding an engineering transformation for a defense company by identifying productivity improvement opportunities and setting a new operating model to increase responsiveness and deploy talent strategically

Before joining McKinsey, Melanie was a principal in Booz & Company’s global aerospace and defense practice. In her advisory work, she also draws on hands-on experience she gained as a systems engineer at Boeing.
