About Matthias

Matthias is a senior partner in the Berlin office and McKinsey Digital. He joined the firm in 2002 and has primarily worked with Fortune 500 companies and large public sector organizations, with a strong focus on digitization. He leads McKinsey’s digital work in the public sector and the Future of Work initiative in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Examples of Matthias’ recent experience include the following:

  • Assessed the impact of digitization on the German labor market and developed career advice and a capability building program on a national level for the Future of Work.
  • Implemented the digitization journey for a major European country—including initial roadmap design and governance setup for the establishment of government digital labs—to enable digitization of approximately 600 government services.
  • Led an agile-at-scale rollout in one of Europe's largest public sector agencies, from initial vision to scaling across IT, business, massive capability building, and culture change.
  • Developed an HR function for the future, including the formulation of a new employee-value proposition and automation of transactional processes.
  • Built a robotics and artificial intelligence group within McKinsey Digital Labs to bring independent technology expertise to clients—growing to over 100 practitioners and serving clients on all aspects from opportunity identification to vendor selection and capability building.

Prior to joining McKinsey, Matthias worked as founder of an IT consulting boutique. Matthias studied business administration with majors in computer science and finance at EBS University of Business and Law in Oestrich-Winkel, Universidad de San Andrés in Buenos Aires, and Thunderbird School of Global Management in Phoenix. He is fluent in German, English, Spanish, and Romanian.
