About Mahir

Mahir, a partner based in Abu Dhabi, has been with the firm since 2017. He is a core member of the McKinsey Digital and McKinsey Analytics Practices, and is the leader of our cybersecurity efforts in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Mahir has more than 30 years of experience in the development and consultation of solutions in the areas of advanced analytics, digital, cybersecurity, and IT infrastructure. His deep expertise in both technical and business areas allows him to help clients address demanding technology transformation challenges.

Examples of Mahir’s recent client experiences include the following:

  • leading an Industry 4.0 transformation at a global manufacturing company, leveraging advanced analytics and AI
  • driving the digital and technology strategy for a country, including strategic vision and objective for the nation, supporting initiatives, a roadmap, and the operating model
  • leading the growth strategy for a major digital and cybersecurity company, developing a strategic roadmap through both organic and inorganic growth opportunities
  • leading the national cybersecurity strategy for Gulf Cooperation Council countries, developing core supporting policies and standards for securing critical national infrastructure
  • implementing mission assurance and disaster recovery through big data and advanced analytics, developing a highly available solution to provide mission assurance and disaster recovery, including a cyber-defense advanced persistent threat (APT) identification analytic platform

Prior to joining McKinsey, Mahir was a senior vice president at Booz Allen Hamilton, leading their cyber and analytics division in the Middle East and Northern Africa region. Prior to this, Mahir was the chief technology officer at Abu Dhabi Systems & Information Center (ADSIC) where he defined the technology agenda for the Abu Dhabi government. He was also the executive director of technology at Musanada, where he oversaw the deployment and operations of the Abu Dhabi government IT shared services.

Mahir has a PhD in electrical engineering from University of Maryland and holds several patents.
