About Madhu

Madhu is a partner in McKinsey’s San Francisco office, focusing primarily on commercial health plans on aspects ranging from end-to-end process design to implementation around IT and operational transformations.

She leads McKinsey’s knowledge efforts on exchange readiness and payor infrastructure needs for reimbursement innovation, such as patient-centered medical homes and accountable care organizations, and has served her payor clients in designing and implementing their reimbursement and care models. Madhu also actively leads the Healthcare Systems & Services Practice effort around data analytics, enabling business needs through superior business-intelligence capabilities.

Examples of Madhu’s recent client work include the following:

  • leading the end-to-end process redesign of a large healthcare company, including conducting stakeholder surveys, implementing advanced procurement techniques, overhauling the enrollment and benefit management processes, and piloting and leading the transformation to scale-up
  • developing a clinical vendor strategy for a healthcare provider, based on economic (costs and benefits) and qualitative criteria and competitor reviews
  • redesigning the activity-based costing system for a large national healthcare company, enabling IT cost transparency for regional business units and improved management of nationwide investment and maintenance costs of IT services
  • leading the large-cost and productivity-cost transformation of a pharmacy company, including diagnostics and benchmarking across multiple functional areas, working with client teams to define initiatives and launch a program management office, and tracking and managing change through a multiyear transformation program
  • helping a large health system redesign its enterprise data analytics and infrastructure, including identifying the business needs and demands, defining data-management and data-center end states, establishing the required governance model and processes, and translating these into IT project road maps
