Dr. Karl Liese co-chairs the firm’s European healthcare work and leads our payor work in Western Europe and Germany.

Karl has more than 15 years of international experience in advising (private and county) insurance companies and hospitals. He also has extensive experience in the management of medical costs, including over 50 CFRS with over 100,000 individual case reviews. Karl advises hospitals in cost reduction, reorganization, mergers and acquisitions, postmerger integration, the determination of personnel requirements, process optimization, and quality management.

From 1993 to 1999, Karl studied medicine at the Hannover Medical School, in Germany; the University of California, Stanford Healthcare, and Harvard Medical School, in the United States; and Unispital, in Zürich, Switzerland. He finished his studies with a PhD in cardiology. He received his MBA at the Kellogg School of Management (in the United States) in 2006, joining McKinsey & Company in Cologne in 2012.
