About Judy

Judy leads McKinsey’s global Fast Growth Tech work, which helps pre-IPO companies, venture-capital firms, growth private-equity firms, and corporate venture funds accelerate growth. She helps these companies achieve their growth potential by addressing opportunities around strategy, customer acquisition and retention, sales-force and marketing effectiveness, and monetization and pricing. Judy led the effort to identify the personality traits and skills for high-performing sales representatives and has spoken extensively on the topic.

Prior to rejoining the firm in 2016 and the Fast Growth Tech team, Judy was a McKinsey partner known for her work transforming companies through unique strategies and creative approaches to implementation, as well as working in the technology, media, telecommunications, and education sectors. She has worked in McKinsey’s New York and San Francisco offices and also at the Johannesburg, South Africa, office, which she helped launch with a team of seven consultants, growing it to 70 consultants.

In between her two McKinsey careers, Judy worked with leading venture-capital firms—including Kapor Capital, Bessemer Venture Partners, Venrock Partners, and DFJ—to start, grow, or turn around companies in their portfolios. She was the senior vice president of corporate development for Retail Solutions—a retail data platform—where she helped build an analytics business measuring the impact of digital advertising on in-store sales. Prior to that, she was the president and CEO of AliveCor, the creator of the smartphone EKG.

In addition to her work with McKinsey, Judy has a passion for education and has served as a trustee of the University of California at Berkeley foundation and currently serves on the College of Letters & Science advisory board.
