About James

James leads our Organization Practice in the United Kingdom and Ireland. He advises executives on all aspects of organization design, culture, talent management, and advanced analytics, working with companies across industries on a global basis.

Since joining McKinsey, James has guided 100 large-scale merger integrations, ranging from $50 million to $55 billion in size and in complexity. He helps executives and committees leading the transformation make critical decisions around driving communication and change management, capturing value, and defining the organization and operating model. He also leads integration leadership boot camps to help executives and managers ramp up capabilities for guiding cascading integration programs.

James leads our efforts to tap the power of advanced analytics as a fundamental component of successful organization and merger integration programs to accelerate growth, capture value, and acquire and retain the best talent.

Examples of his recent client work include the following:

  • designing and leading the integration management office for a European-based industrial company merging a key business unit with a US-headquartered acquisition, driving revenue value creation and integrating new digital capabilities
  • working with a Japanese company to design a talent, technology, and IP integration program for a US acquisition
  • designing and leading the integration management office for an industrial automation company, replacing a country-based commercial approach with a global organizational model and achieving cost savings while driving top-line sales growth
  • directing an integration program for a healthcare business that captured significant value by optimizing manufacturing, procurement, R&D, and global administrative functions
  • designing and supporting the integration of two major global generics acquisitions
  • developing the implementation plan for a technology services company transitioning to a new operating and delivery model, which stabilized and prepared the businesss for rapid top-line and margin growth

To foster the spread of merger integration best practices, James serves as faculty for McKinsey's Integration Leaders Forum. He is a member of BritishAmerican Business, an organization focused on supporting transatlantic business advancement.

James is a chartered accountant with the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants in the United Kingdom. Before joining McKinsey, he worked for a leading assurance, tax, and advisory services company, where he focused on merger integration.
