Ian De Bode

Leads our efforts on Web 3.0 in North America, working closely with executives to help them understand its disruptive potential and an effective competitive response

Drawing on a deep passion for Web 3.0 (web3), Ian educates executives on the disruptive impact of blockchain, smart contracts, and digital assets, and helps them identify which new products, services, or businesses they can launch to compete in this new paradigm. He also helps web3 start-ups understand what it takes to achieve enterprise adoption and actively builds bridges between the traditional and new web3 world.

Ian’s experience covers financial services, retail, media and technology clients in North America, Europe, and Asia. Select examples of his recent work include the following:

  • crafting the web3 strategy for a global payments infrastructure company
  • helping a Tier 1 bank set up a new entity focused on commercial banking of digital assets
  • helping global climate investors set up tokenization businesses for carbon credits
  • helping a media company launch a web3 loyalty program

Ian also routinely assists growth equity investors on commercial due diligence regarding web3 start-ups.

Before joining McKinsey, Ian worked in Belgium as a product development manager, helping improve the product quality of substrates used in the power supply for satellites.
