About Gerard

Gerard coleads McKinsey’s global core technology work, with more than two decades of experience advising senior IT executives on digital and core technology transformations, application development and maintenance, and operations. He spent most of that time based in Silicon Valley, where he focused on applying agile and lean engineering principles, platform ecosystem thinking, architecture simplification, and next-generation infrastructure innovations within a wide variety of sectors, both through multiyear transformations as well as targeted diagnostics. Gerard is now based in Amsterdam, where he helps advanced European companies scale the impact of digital.

Examples of Gerard’s recent client work include the following:

  • leading a digital IT-portfolio optimization effort for a European financial institution with a €1 billion IT investment portfolio, laying out a reshaped digital roadmap focused on IT simplification and journey digitization
  • optimizing the digital operating model transformation of an established global-payment fintech, covering more than 3,000 product engineers of an established agile product development and delivery organization
  • coleading the digital transformation of a top-ten utility company based in the United States, with a focus on digitizing field employee journeys by setting up a digital lab and building minimum viable products (MVPs) for several digital solutions within the first six months, and transforming the application delivery function to increasingly adopt agile and DevOps principles
  • coleading the definition of the digital strategy for the upstream operations of a leading global oil and gas company, including defining the value at stake, defining the landscape of opportunities, and establishing the future digital roadmap
  • leading the digital transformation of the corporate business support functions—including finance, HR, legal, and IT—of a Fortune 500 data management organization in Silicon Valley, with a focus on capturing digital effectiveness and efficiency opportunities
