About Georges

Georges was managing partner for McKinsey in Africa from 2016 to 2018 and for Japan from 2011 to 2015, having worked in Beijing from 1999 to 2006 and in Paris from 2006 to 2011. He was a member of McKinsey’s Shareholders Council, the firm’s governing body, from 2015 to 2018, chairing the governance committee.

In northern Asia today, Georges advises private-equity firms, as well as consumer, technology, and financial institutions, on globalization growth strategies and on culture and talent transformations, with particular emphasis on opportunities in Africa and Asia.

In Africa, Georges supported financial institutions and energy, consumer, and retail companies on growth and organization. In Japan and Europe, he helped consumer-electronics companies and financial institutions on growth, merger integration, operational effectiveness, marketing capabilities, and the development of talent.

Georges writes frequently on economic perspectives and consumer trends. He was co-author of the book Africa’s Business Revolution (Harvard Business Review Press, November 2018), as well as reports such as “Lions on the move II” (McKinsey Global Institute, September 2016) and “The future of Japan: Reigniting growth and productivity” (McKinsey Global Institute, March 2015), as well as “Meeting the 2030 French consumer” and “The next $20 trillion in emerging markets,” with McKinsey’s Marketing & Sales Practice.

Georges devotes much of his energy to developing McKinsey’s global talent, particularly women. He chaired the partner-review committee that evaluates partners worldwide and initiated and co-led McKinsey’s “Women Matter” research on the role of women in corporations, including “Women Matter: Ten years of insights on gender diversity” (2017), “Women Matter Africa” (2016), and “Women Matter: An Asian perspective” (2012).

Georges joined McKinsey in 1988 after four years in sales at an industrial manufacturer.
