I am lucky to work at a place with exceptional people and face new, exciting challenges every day!

Choosing McKinsey

During my undergraduate studies, I had not yet decided on a career. But I knew that I wanted to work at a company that provided stimulating challenges alongside ambitious colleagues. I knew McKinsey promised this, and so I applied for an internship. The internship was so much fun that I decided to postpone my plans for further studies in favor of working at the firm full time. Fast forward some years, and I now know that McKinsey was the absolute best choice.

Charting your own course at McKinsey

From the beginning, I worked in different industries and functions but always on important challenges for our clients. I gained a view of many different aspects of the business world. I found this—coupled with the McKinsey model of working in teams and the focus on supporting and developing people—to be challenging in a very positive way. As I have narrowed my interests to specific industries, I have received a lot of support. For example, I was given the opportunity to work closely with a large Scandinavian retailer, which allowed me to deepen my understanding of industry dynamics and build valuable relationships, both with clients and new McKinsey colleagues.

When I wanted to pursue an MBA, McKinsey supported my acceptance to Harvard Business School by providing educational leave, scholarship assistance, and aid in the application process. In earning my MBA, I found that my prior work at McKinsey made the program an even-better learning experience. I was able to improve my skill set before returning to my role at the firm.

Work environment and colleagues

Most importantly, the people and the spirit in the Oslo office make me excited to go to work each day. Our office has a feeling of community, and I have made many good friends along the way. I am lucky to work at a place with exceptional people and face new, exciting challenges every day!
