I chose McKinsey because we work with high impact projects all over the world and have a unique culture for learning and fun.
My path to McKinsey
I come from Oslo, and I have been working at McKinsey since January 2019. So far, I have not specialized in any particular section within the firm, but have explored several industries and functions, such as telecommunications, consumer, oil and gas, strategy, implementation, and organization.
I have a background in industrial economics, and I did one exchange semester at Harvard during my third year. In Trondheim, I was engaged in various student associations, including the Student Festival UKA, the board of the student association, the revue, as an actor, and sports organizations.
I enjoy travelling, and it may be through any means of transportation. I ran from Trondheim to Oslo when I finished my studies, and I hitchhiked through Africa when I took 6 months from school.
Choosing McKinsey
I chose consulting because I wanted to explore the huge range of opportunities that you get exposed to in the profession, and I chose McKinsey because we work with high impact projects all over the world and have a unique culture for learning and fun.
Expectations for working at McKinsey
I was expecting a high pace, lots of learning and meeting many interesting people, and my expectations were definitely fulfilled. I was unsure McKinsey gave as many international opportunities as it claimed, but from my first project, I realized it was true; I was staffed in London along with a person from Canada, one from Germany and another from Norway, working for a Scottish client, and with McKinsey leadership from the Netherlands, Switzerland and Austria.
