Life as a Consultant

Joining the Mexico office is an opportunity to become part of a dedicated, entrepreneurial, and diverse working culture.

Our Mexico City office is home to more than 120 McKinsey consultants, with an additional 10 consultants based in Monterrey. They joined us from a variety of backgrounds—not only business and economics but also engineering, medicine, and the arts and humanities—and represent 17 nationalities.

Joining the Mexico office is an opportunity to become part of a dedicated, entrepreneurial, and diverse working culture. McKinsey Mexico is a close-knit and caring place where teammates quickly form enduring friendships. We organize a wide range of interest groups—sporting events, including the McKinsey America Soccer Championships, and social events, which include Friday happy hours, team lunches, and a “McKids” day when colleagues can bring their children to the office.

McKinsey is deeply committed to advancing women—in our firm and in companies and professions in Mexico and across the world. Women currently make up 20 to 25 percent of the consultants in our Mexico office. We have a dedicated women’s initiative led by two of our women partners—both of them working mothers—and we are experimenting with different career paths and working schedules to ensure that mothers have successful long-term careers at McKinsey.

Work-life journey

Our “Take Time” program allows consultants to take time off between engagements to pursue personal interests and passions, including travel and further study. For example, colleagues in our Mexico office have used Take Time to set up an “Ideas in Development Lab” to foster social and economic development in Latin America, backpack around Eastern Europe, and attend the football World Cup in Brazil.

You can learn more about how meaningful our Take Time program is to our people by watching and reading their personal stories on our global site.

The way we work

Our clients grapple with tough questions: how to improve operations to become globally competitive, how to plan for and manage expansion into growth markets in the region, and how to put in place organizational structures and processes that drive innovation and long-term performance.

In every project, our teams share a structured problem-solving approach where all opinions and options are considered, researched, and analyzed to come up with recommendations. McKinsey projects typically last 1 to 6 months, so each new project is another opportunity to learn and grow.

Make your mark

We are committed to helping you make your mark wherever you work, with both clients and colleagues. We provide tools distilled from previous work and access to an extensive team of experts in all key sectors and functions.

The variety of projects and clients mean that our consultants often take varied paths throughout their careers at McKinsey—and beyond. Based on their experience, our consultants usually focus on a specific function or industry that interests them.

Development opportunities

With excellent training programs, a team-based approach, commitment to mentoring, and a global presence, McKinsey offers tremendous opportunities for professional development and personal growth. Globally, we invest more than $100 million in training annually. In Mexico, professional development is a top priority. We work hand in hand with our colleagues to help them build their careers and develop a professional program that reflects their specific needs and interests.
