Artificial intelligence and Southeast Asia’s future

AI is in its early stages of penetration in Southeast Asia. All member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) are engaged in AI research at some level, with Singapore leading the way.

However, to realize its full potential and catch up with the United States and China, the world’s two major AI hubs, the region will need to identify specific business use cases, create more robust data ecosystems, and improve its development of talent and capabilities.

This paper was prepared for the Singapore Summit.
