My background
Prior to joining McKinsey, I was the assistant manager in strategic sourcing and vendor development for the largest two-wheeler manufacturer in India, where I developed my expertise in procurement. The part I didn’t enjoy about my previous job was the repetitive, monotonous tasks we had to do every quarter, which would take two to three weeks to complete. So I got involved in a project to automate the process and reduce the work to two days. That’s when I developed an interest in data handling and analytics.
I was looking for a new opportunity, and I discovered a position for e-procurement at McKinsey, joining the firm in 2016. This was the perfect role to help me hone my newly developed data analytics skills while using my procurement expertise. Now known as the digital-procurement team, my team provide clients with solutions on spend intelligence and category analytics.
My role as a solution-delivery specialist
I lead the end-to-end implementation of digital-procurement tools, working with both clients and internal McKinsey teams. On the client side, I support organizations across geographies and industries, including logistics, finance, apparel, healthcare, and mining, both on site and off site.
I offer clients expertise on digital solutions to define their procurement strategies, with a focus on quickly identifying savings opportunities and process optimization. I have also helped develop multiple digital procurement solutions. For example, I am developing a Mckinsey proprietary solution proprietary solution, in collaboration with teams from Asia and the United States across the Client Capabilities Network. We have interviewed more than 50 McKinsey experts and business leaders across the globe to shape the tool.
One of my most memorable projects so far
I supported a rapid-value-capture study for a US logistics client. We successfully piloted a McKinsey-proprietary category-analytics solution, defined a procurement strategy for two categories, and achieved target savings. The pilot was so successful, we rolled out the solution to over 50 clients.
It was my first on-site project, and the experience was exceptional. I worked with a diverse team, and everyone was supportive and took the time to provide guidance. I built a great relationship with the client. I even got promoted during the project.
