About Chiaki

Chiaki is a core leader of the Operations Practice and the firm’s Internet of Things work in Asia. He helps clients in the automotive and assembly sector to plan and implement operational-transformation programs and to develop and manage new businesses incorporating disruptive technologies.

Chiaki’s operations work in Asia focuses on product development and procurement, helping clients to design and implement transformations to excel in operational processes and capabilities.

He also leads the firm’s IoT work to develop and implement novel business strategies and digitize business operations to generate an unpreceded impact for his clients.

Examples of his recent client work include the following:

  • establishing an IoT innovation-acceleration program for a leading Japanese industrial-equipment manufacturer to develop new service models, followed by a yearlong implementation phase
  • developing and building the digitization of the procurement and product-development processes of an industrial-equipment manufacturer to enhance productivity and optimize costs
  • developing an investment and portfolio strategy to help a leading Japanese company establish its presence in the industrial IoT arena, resulting in the acquisition of a target with possibilities for synergy
  • leading a postmerger transformation program that consolidated the procurement activities of five subsidiaries of a global conglomerate by consolidating databases, processes, and performance management to maximize cost synergies

Before coming to McKinsey, Chiaki worked for the corporate-planning group of a leading Japanese consumer-electronics company, developing midterm business strategies and leading M&A projects.
