Leads McKinsey Sustainability’s insights team in Asia and coleads the firm’s work in tech-enabled procurement; advises and supports clients on sustainability, growth, and transformation journeys

Since joining McKinsey in 2011, Vaibhav has helped clients across Asia, Australia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and the Americas as they define, develop, and progress sustainability aspirations. He also supports leading organizations, across a wide variety of sectors to transform operations—particularly in procurement.

Vaibhav leads McKinsey Sustainability’s insights team in Asia, which advises clients on managing the risks and capturing the opportunities arising from energy transition. He helps organizations define sustainability goals—including environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria—and develop a roadmap to put these into practice. Typically, such roadmaps include measures to reduce environmental footprints and identify opportunities to build new businesses from energy transition.

He also coleads the firm’s work in tech-enabled procurement in the region, with a focus on transforming procurement through the application of digital and analytics. For instance, he has helped organizations in the oil and gas, mining, infrastructure, and logistics sectors transform operations through tech-enabled procurement.

Examples of Vaibhav’s recent client work include the following:

  • developing a strategy for an Asian national oil company to reach net-zero scope 1 and 2 emissions, including net-zero pathways and marginal-abatement cost curves for the entire portfolio—upstream, midstream, downstream—while identifying new business opportunities for portfolio diversification beyond hydrocarbons
  • supporting an Asian electric-utility company to develop net-zero pathways to decarbonize electricity generation and supply, which included the evaluation of an optimal mix of technologies and solutions, such as renewables like solar, wind, geothermal, and hydro, carbon capture and utilization, and biomass cofiring
  • developing a blueprint for a Southeast Asian country to participate in the voluntary carbon market
  • advising an Asian conglomerate on its sustainability strategy and roadmap by defining priority ESG metrics, identifying gaps in best practices, and developing lighthouse initiatives that enabled the client to become a sustainability leader in its country
