Katariina Silander
Associate, Integrative Consulting

When Katariina joined McKinsey Helsinki as an Associate, she had practiced as a physician specialized in public health and held various research roles at the intersection of medicine, business, and society. She also holds a M.Sc. (economics, major in strategy) and a PhD (health care service management). Katariina is passionate about health care systems, and is looking forward to both applying her expertise from Finland to other countries’ health systems, as well as developing her consulting skills in entirely new sectors. Katariina is considering using McKinsey’s flexible programs to continue her practice as a medical doctor, which she and her many MD colleagues at McKinsey are welcome to do.

Choose your path

Generalist
In the generalist role, you’ll help our clients solve some of their most difficult problems. You will be exposed to a variety of industries and tackle issues in different functions. You’ll learn to take a top-management perspective and use an integrated approach that considers the organization as a whole while you develop fact-based recommendations. Roles for generalists are determined by experience and education and individuals typically join as either an associate or engagement manager.

Operations
McKinsey’s Operations Practice consultants help our clients transform every aspect of their operations from customer service to manufacturing—and significantly improve their efficiency, productivity, quality, and agility. Operational excellence makes a decisive competitive difference for many of the world’s leading companies.

Digital
Consultants in the digital group share a passion for information technology. As a member of digital, your role will be similar to that of a generalist consultant, but your mix of projects will be different. You will have the opportunity to work on issues such as big data, agile methodologies, cloud computing, cybersecurity, analytics, and digital transformation.

Analytics
Our analytics consultants provide a deep understanding of the latest analytics techniques to help clients generate the most value from the data – we solve the toughest problems across different industries, ranging from strategy to the actual implementation of digital/analytics solutions, such as personalization of offers, forecasting or scheduling optimization.
