Attending the WomEngineering event was a great way to learn about McKinsey, working as a consultant, and the different development opportunities. Most of all, the informal setting and fun activities – such as a scavenger hunt – allowed me to get to know everyone in the Operations Practice. It was inspiring for me to talk to so many women at different stages of their careers, and to hear about their experience in the field of operations.

The event sparked my interest in working at McKinsey, and I stayed in contact with the recruiting team. A few months later, after finishing my studies and completing the application process, I was lucky enough to join the Operations Excellence Program. Fellow participants had the same great experience at WomEngineering, and I am happy to see them again soon – but now as colleagues.

Attending WomEngineering in Berlin may have been one of the best decisions I made last year, as it resulted in me joining McKinsey last October.

Before attending the event, I was interested in operations consulting, but I was not sure if it would be the best next step for me, and I boarded the plane with quite a few questions. The event itself exceeded my expectations very quickly. In two days, you learn about the Operations Practice, the wide variety of engagements McKinsey Operations works on, training opportunities such as the Operations Excellence Program, and who you will be working with. I did not expect to meet so many consultants during the event – all of them inspiring women who are very passionate about their work. The environment was very open and welcoming as well, and I returned home very excited about the idea of becoming a member of the McKinsey family.

Today, as a member of the Operations Excellence Program, I am still in contact with participants and consultants I met during the event. Looking back at the wonderful time I had, I would definitely recommend participating.

Attending the WomEngineering event in 2017 was the perfect introduction to McKinsey and the consulting industry. Through this experience, I met like-minded women whom I count as friends today and embarked on a new career journey.

The benefits I gained from the program were twofold. First, it enabled me to learn about the client work that McKinsey does in operations, understand the opportunities available for my profile, and discover what a career at McKinsey would entail. The setting was informal, and the consultants I met were open and honest in recounting their experiences.

Second, I got to see the beautiful surroundings of the Alpine University in Kitzbühel, learn how to sled (badly!), and enjoy a traditional Austrian feast. Through the social aspect of the program, I made new friends, which was one of the driving factors in my decision to apply shortly after. I joined the Operations Excellence Program in April 2018.
