WHY I CHOOSE INSIGHT

“I loved the feeling of working in a team –

it was such a different working environment and style to what I had been used to in my PhD. I found it super energising and fun to be working alongside exceptional people to solve a real business problem".

Elizabeth Murray
Associate in Melbourne
PhD, Neuroscience, University of Oxford

“During my PhD, I loved the problem solving -

especially on problems that no one had ever thought of before. However, I wanted more team work, and to be making a bigger impact. I started going lectures and events about start-ups, and just got super excited by the world of business. That’s when I started thinking about consulting. And then of course I attended the Insight Programme in 2013, which absolutely sold it to me as a career."

James Polyblank
Associate in London
PhD, Mechanical Engineering, University of Cambridge

“During grad school, a friend of mine applied and suggested that I also apply

It seemed like a good opportunity to learn more about consulting, with an eye towards deciding whether consulting might be something that I would be interested in pursuing after my academic program was completed."

Jonathan Pedde
Associate in New York
MPhil, Economics, University of Oxford

“I really enjoyed meeting the other participants at Discover, as it really highlighted the diversity of McKinsey. Also, working through the case study in a group was a great insight into the problem solving approach McKinsey uses which really helped me understand what life as a consultant would involve. Previously, I had been sceptical of consulting as a career choice but the opportunity to meet consultants at McKinsey changed my mind. Discover helped me decide that consulting was a career for me and an area that would provide great opportunities and support, early in my career path.”
