October 14, 2022Indonesia aspires to reach net zero by 2060 or sooner, as the country’s President Joko Widodo stated. While ambitious, this goal is not impossible to attain, but will require major sectors of the economy to make significant effort to decarbonize, said McKinsey’s Thomas Hansmann at the 5th Indonesia Circular Economy Forum which was on accelerating climate action. These sectors also have to be committed to overcoming challenges stemming from Indonesia’s unique geographical and economic circumstances. It presents untapped economic opportunities—$100-125 billion worth of value add from across major sectors could be generated by a green economy.
