Who You'll Work With

You will be based in our Madrid, Lisbon, Dublin, Berlin, Budapest or Wroclaw office and you'll be part of Build by McKinsey, which is part of McKinsey Digital. Our tech delivery people unit—a global team of software, data and cloud engineers, passionate designers, technology architects, product owners, and leading technologists. Our multidisciplinary squads work side-by-side with business strategists and experts from Cloud by McKinsey and QuantumBlack, AI by McKinsey.

What You'll Do

You will work with clients in a wide range of sectors and industries, advising them on how to best use technology. You’ll use your technical skills to turn clients’ ambitions into reality. This includes hands-on, ground up development as well as coaching and mentoring our client teams to enable best practices while working towards delivering new data engineer products and services.
As an adaptive engineer, you will help clients build their technical capabilities as well as a culture centered around engineering best practices, user centricity and Agile values.


  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics or equivalent; master's degree preferred
  • 4+ years experience working with Big Data platforms like Hadoop, HBase, CouchDB, hive, Pig, etc.
  • Experience with Teradata, Oracle, MySQL, Informatica, Tableau, QlikView or similar reporting and BI packages
  • Knowledge of SQL, PL/SQL and similar languages, UNIX shell scripting
  • Strong experience with data modeling, design patterns, building highly scalable and secured solutions
  • Knowledge of agile software development process and familiarity with performance metric tools
  • Knowledge of web application development technologies such as Ruby on Rails, Java, UNIX, HTML, CSS, Perl or PHP is a plus
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills paired with the ability to develop creative and efficient solutions; tolerance in dealing with bad quality data
  • Knowledge of statistical data analysis and data mining packages Python, R, Matlab SAS, SPSS, etc.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership and communication skills and the ability to work both independently and in various team settings
  • Ability to manage own learning and contribute to domain knowledge building
