You will contribute industry expertise, conduct rigorous research and analysis, and develop fact-based insights that support strategic decision making and deliver lasting client impact.
You will work closely with consulting teams, including Associates, Engagement Managers, and Partners, to help clients address complex business challenges and capture growth opportunities.
You will join McKinsey's Automotive & Assembly Practice, part of our Advanced Industries sector. The practice serves leading automotive OEMs, suppliers, technology companies, investors, and mobility players on their most important strategic and operational priorities. Our work spans the full automotive value chain, including electrification, software-defined vehicles, autonomous driving, connected mobility, advanced manufacturing, and supply chain transformation.
In addition to supporting client engagements, you will help strengthen McKinsey's proprietary knowledge and capabilities by developing industry insights, knowledge assets, and thought leadership for the Automotive Practice. Your work will cover both core automotive topics and emerging trends shaping the future of mobility and advanced industries, including passenger and commercial vehicles, electrification, software-defined and connected vehicles, autonomous driving, supply chain and manufacturing transformation, next-generation energy and storage technologies, industrial AI, humanoid robotics, and the low-altitude economy.
You will collaborate with a diverse and globally connected team of automotive experts and knowledge professionals across China, Korea, Japan, India, Germany, and the United States, contributing to the development of distinctive client insights and advancing McKinsey's leadership in the automotive and mobility sectors.

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree with an outstanding academic record, preferably in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field
  • 1+ years of relevant professional experience in the automotive industry, mobility ecosystem, or related sectors
  • Strong interest in the automotive industry and willingness to rapidly develop deep expertise across the industry value chain
  • Deep knowledge of one or more key trends shaping the automotive sector, such as autonomous driving, artificial intelligence, connected vehicles, software-defined vehicles (SDV), electrification, and advanced powertrain technologies
  • Professional experience with automotive OEMs, suppliers, technology companies, research institutions, or industry-focused advisory organizations
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and quantitative skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear insights and recommendations
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to independently drive workstreams while collaborating effectively in a team environment
  • Passion for research, knowledge development, and solving complex business problems
  • Solid understanding of business, economic, and financial concepts
  • Proven ability to leverage AI and generative AI tools to enhance research, analysis, and knowledge development processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Chinese
