Global Communications Specialist - Organization Practice

  • 6+ years’ experience in communications roles in prestigious global organizations including business, consulting or other professional services firms, or financial services
  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred 
  • A track record of helping to develop reputation-building, multi-channel campaigns and executing them for a large, high-profile, global company
  • Experience of developing marketing operations processes and measurement systems 
  • Good understanding of how to successfully leverage knowledge/intellectual capital/thought leadership in communications 
  • Proven strategic and tactical understanding of social and digital media in campaigns and in broader reputation building 
  • Strong attention to detail 
  • A good writer and a good editor, with experience gained in B2B content-led role
  • Experience in managing reputation risks
  • Experience in working to a strategic plan and of working to budget 
  • Ability to think strategically in developing plans while executing and delivering
  • A thorough understanding of external channels – including publishing, digital and social media, face-to-face, events, etc
  • A proven ability to balance the needs of different stakeholders and proactively understand the needs of internal clients 
  • A proven track record of building a network in a globally dispersed organisation; experience working in globally distributed teams preferred 
  • Ability to navigate a complex organization and work through ambiguity 

Who You'll Work With

You’ll be part of our Organization Practice, working out of one of our Communications hubs (Atlanta, Philadelphia, Chicago or New York). 

McKinsey’s Organization Practice is one of the fastest growing functional practices in McKinsey and is responsible for 10-20% of the work the Firm does. We are a trusted adviser to the world’s leading businesses, governments, and institutions on their most important organizational opportunities and challenges. Our global network of consultants and experts, our proprietary data and analytics, and our innovative services help our clients across a broad range of service lines, including talent management, organizational design and health, agility, culture and change, leadership, and merger management. We tailor our work to clients’ needs, based on their context (e.g. merger, turnaround, agility, family owned business, etc.) and their industry


What You'll Do

You will work on the execution and evolution of the Organization Practice’s communications strategy.  

This strategy shapes the practice’s reputation both internally and externally and has three key components: 1) social media, 2) elevating the profile of the practice’s partners and disseminating thought leadership, and 3) multichannel campaigns.

Working closely with the Head of External Relations & Communications for the Organization Practice, you will collaborate with colleagues across the firm, including the press office, editorial teams, digital and social media team, and reputation risk team.  

In 2019 the practice’s communications strategy needs to be consolidated, scaled, and aligned with the overall practice strategy. It needs to be reviewed and measured to test impact and contribution to client development, and where necessary improved. New campaigns will need to be created, delivered and measured, and best practices developed for future campaigns. As a communications specialist, you will have an important role to play in driving the communications strategy forward.
