Who You'll Work With

You’ll be based in Munich (Germany), Wroclaw (Poland) or Prague (Czech Republic) as part of the McKinsey Center for Future Mobility (MCFM) Solution team. The growing team is focused on developing distinctive proprietary assets and serving clients on the most challenging mobility questions across sectors, industries and continents.
The MCFM was established to help business leaders and policy makers solve the world’s mobility problems for society, industries, and individuals. Generally based in four global hubs (Beijing, Detroit, Munich, and Silicon Valley).

The MCFM is the leading think tank and advisor to the automotive and mobility industry. Our forward thinking and integrated perspective—covering all mobility-related sectors across automotive, cities, tech, freight, infrastructure, last-mile delivery, utilities, and many others—helps industry leaders and policy makers lead change, navigate disruptions, and win in a future that is autonomous, connected, electrified and shared.

The MCFM Solution aims to help society/individuals, organizations and the public sector navigate the future of mobility by providing an independent and integrated fact base about future mobility scenarios. What You'll Do

You will work with a highly collaborative team of data engineers to develop strategies for extracting, transforming and optimizing data flows from complex, sometimes disparate, data sources.  
In this role, you will work with the MCFM Solution's entire data ecosystem to enable effective, highly scalable data analysis pipelines and play a critical role in database design, development, data integration and ingestion, as well as designing ETL architectures using a variety of ETL tools and techniques. Most work will be done remotely from Munich, Wroclaw, or Prague, however you will be expected to travel to other locations for meetings.
Facing new intellectual challenges on a daily basis, you will continuously build your methodological knowledge and skills and contribute to team strategy on knowledge and capability development.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, information systems or any related field
  • 3+ years of experience in a data engineering role
  • Strong experience in Python and SQL; knowledge of Linux; BI tools is a plus; Bash is a plus
  • Knowledge of efficient data structures for medium to large data sets for advanced analytics applications
  • Data warehousing experience, building operational ETL data pipelines across a number of sources and constructing relational and dimensional data models
  • Experience and interest in relational database management systems (at least one of: PostgreSQL, MySQL, MS SQL, Oracle) and in distributed processing frameworks (at least one of: Spark, Hadoop, EMR)
  • Ability to work across structured, semi-structured and unstructured data, extracting information and identifying linkages across disparate data sets
  • Experience with data engineering in cloud environments (AWS, Azure) is a plus
  • Strong understanding of information security principles to ensure compliant handling and management of client data
  • Ability to collaborate with different people of diverse skill sets and disciplines
  • Highly motivated with the ability to perform under tight deadlines and changing priorities
