Coordinator - External Relations

  • Strong knowledge of UK and global media landscape
  • Growing network of contacts primarily at the UK nationals (Times/Telegraph/Guardian), UK-based international press (ie. FT, Economist, CNN, Bloomberg, Reuters, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of Trade media useful
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a communications role or in a communications-related field – e.g. journalism, PR, public affairs
  • First-hand experience in playing an active role in multi-channel external communication programmes
  • Strong social media skills across Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook
  • Demonstrated ability to absorb rapidly a wide range of complex business and economic issues
  • Strong interest in knowledge development and the dissemination of ideas
  • Strong research skills – able to put together briefs, backgrounders, etc.
  • Crisis and issue management experience
  • Strong writing skills, in particular, the ability to distill complex ideas into accessible PR-oriented copy
  • Strong academic qualifications; graduate degree preferred

Who You'll Work With

You will be a part of our External Communications team, located in London, responsible for implementing a comprehensive external communications programme for McKinsey’s UK & Ireland Offices. We are looking for a contractor for fixed term 12-month contract.


What You'll Do

You will work closely with other team members to manage the firm's external presence in UK and Ireland. 

You will work across a wide range of practices supporting our Head of Strategic Communications and other team members, our managing partner's external programme, as well as that of other senior leaders.

You will be responsible for first class media relations, public relations activities - including content development, events, speeches, partnerships with key institutions, etc. - and targeted dissemination of reports and publications. 

You will also maintain a comprehensive network of key policy makers, senior executives, academics, and editors or journalists for the UK office and its practices or sectors, and you'll facilitate outreach programmes to these audiences.  This includes developing media lists for new growth and social impact areas of the firm, providing high-quality writing support (e.g. articles, web-copy, speeches) for both internal and external campaigns, and helping in managing relationships with external partner organizations (e.g. CBI, Chatham House etc) and communication advisors (e.g. PR agencies, freelance writers, editors, publishers).
