- Tokyo
You will translate complex market, technological, and competitive dynamics into high-impact strategies, actionable operational roadmaps, and proprietary industry intelligence.
You will be based in our Tokyo office as a core member of the Advanced Electronics & Semiconductor Practice within our global Client Capabilities Network (CCN). The CCN brings together more than 7,000 colleagues worldwide who deliver specialized industry expertise, proprietary assets, and deep analytical insights to consulting teams and client executives.
You will partner directly with Tokyo-based clients and client service teams (CSTs) and engage side-by-side with leaders across Japan’s semiconductor ecosystem—including leading capital equipment manufacturers, materials suppliers, integrated device manufacturers (IDMs), fabless designers, foundries, and downstream technology leaders. While deeply anchored in Japan’s market dynamics and client relationships, you will also collaborate seamlessly with our global network of over 60 semiconductor specialists across key technology hubs in the United States, Germany, Greater China, and broader Asia-Pacific.
In addition to supporting client engagements, you will help strengthen McKinsey's proprietary knowledge and capabilities by developing industry insights, knowledge assets, and thought leadership for the Semiconductor Practice. Your work will cover both core semiconductor topics and emerging trends.
Specifically, you will:
Drive Client Problem-Solving & Engagement: Participate actively in client engagements and workshops, delivering grounded perspectives on semiconductor market dynamics, supply chain resilience, technology inflection points, and competitive positioning.
Deliver Strategic Insights: Synthesize complex market developments, technology roadmaps, and macroeconomic trends into compelling executive-ready deliverables, including quantitative models, strategic memos, and executive presentations for Japanese and global clients.
Co-Lead Executive Discussions: Present analytical findings and strategic takeaways directly in client discussions, working hand-in-hand with partners and engagement managers to address critical C-suite questions.
Advance Local & Global Knowledge: Partner with global research peers to develop proprietary industry assets, market models, and benchmarks tailored to the evolving Japanese and APAC semiconductor landscape.
Contribute to Industry Thought Leadership: Collaborate on firm-published articles, white papers, and point-of-view reports addressing key semiconductor trends, geopolitical shifts, and innovation opportunities.
Throughout your journey, you will receive dedicated mentorship from senior colleagues, continuous professional development, and high-impact training designed to sharpen your client leadership and strategic problem-solving skills.
