Happy work and happy private time

Hi everyone,

There are two types of moments that I particularly enjoy in my life: the time when we successfully finish a project, and the time I spend relaxing with my family.

At McKinsey, we work on a project basis with teams of colleagues and clients. It is always very rewarding for me to achieve our goals and see the smiles on our clients’ faces after working hard as a team. The team environment is great—spending a few months together helps create a sense of unity and build strong, almost family-like, relationships. We do not only work together, but also talk about various topics, share interests and have fun.

For example, on my current team there are colleagues of five nationalities, creating a great opportunity to learn about different cultures while working towards a common goal. I am also truly inspired by working with a female partner from our Tokyo office who is a real role model to me.

In terms of my private life, I recently took a holiday to attend my friend's wedding in Bali. Taking my newborn daughter with me was a bit of a challenge, but she managed the trip well and I had a very happy and relaxing time with my family.

One of the great things about McKinsey is that we enable colleagues to manage a full life. We have many flexibility programs like Take Time, which allows employees to take longer breaks between projects, and traditional part-time programs like working 80%. It is great to see that many colleagues use those programs. As a working mother, I work part-time myself, which makes it very easy for me to manage my time.

Until next time,
Emiri
