A new role at the firm

Originally from Australia, Denise joined our Stamford office in the fall of 2014 as an experienced hire, and transferred to the Seattle office in the fall of 2016. She's served a wide range of clients in her consulting career and is now focused on food companies in the consumer, retail, and logistics industries. Denise holds degrees in commerce and economics from the University of Queensland. She has lots of personal interests, including cooking, restaurant-exploring, anything outdoors, playing the saxophone, keeping up with the latest on entrepreneurship and gender issues, and exploring her new home country with family and friends.

Hi everyone,

(Belated) Happy New Year!

I’m excited to be returning with a blog post after some winter hibernation (aka lots of skiing), and also excited to share that I have a new role at the firm as an associate partner.

This is one of the most crazy and challenging transitions at McKinsey and one that is affecting all aspects of my life. On the client side, I am now involved in multiple client situations at the same time, and have to effectively manage a portfolio of clients and opportunities. Thankfully I had been given a solid amount of apprenticeship coming into the role: late last year I was able to step into an engagement director role for one of my clients and also continued to be involved in the massive transformation that I mentioned in my last post. This was an ideal setup (from an infrastructure perspective) to adjust to the AP role.

On the people side, I now get to spend time with more people since I’m simultaneously working with more than one team. This is a real positive for me, as I get a lot of energy from my teams, but on the flipside I don’t get to spend as much individual time with each person. That being said, I’m learning how to maximize the time I spend with all of the awesome people I work with.

Next week I’ll share a post about the AP orientation program I recently attended.
