A learning program in Bangkok

– Hi everyone -

A few weeks ago I attended "MI Advanced Coaching," a brand-new learning program for senior members (Implementation Leaders and Senior Implementation Leaders) of McKinsey Implementation. This program was held in Bangkok, which was amazing. I flew in early to spend a few days at the beach in Ko Samui and then spent the weekend after exploring Bangkok.

Coaching is really at the core of what we do in McKinsey Implementation: we coach clients through a variety of situations, such as execution and implementation of a strategy, building capabilities, and leadership growth. This learning program was completely dedicated to improving our coaching capabilities—focusing on 'soft skills'—to help us feel more comfortable and drive greater impact in client coaching.

True to McKinsey's global nature, between faculty and attendees we had representation from Australia, Asia, Africa, Europe, and North America, so we heard diverse perspectives and knowledge. This program was a pilot, and given its success will now be brought to North America early next year.

I really believe that possessing an effective coaching skillset is critical to being a great leader—and I also think the knowledge I gained will be beneficial to my personal life—so this was a week well-spent.

Until next time,
Lindsey
