McKinsey Q&A: Katja

– Katja, a senior coach with McKinsey Implementation who is based in Frankfurt, describes why she joined McKinsey, the flexibility she loves here and the tremendous impact she’s achieved:

Interviewer: Why did you join McKinsey as an implementation coach?

Katja: I came from a medium-size specialized consulting firm and was looking for the opportunity to work on a larger variety of topics. I was also really excited about growing and shaping McKinsey Implementation – an emerging service line within McKinsey.

Interviewer: What do you most love about your role?

Katja: The options. I can explore topics that interest me. I can go deep in one area or quite broad across multiple topics. I can work in Central Europe or relocate (temporarily or permanently) to Australia, which has a huge need for experienced implementers right now. I have a global network which provides more interaction and options. I’m always learning here.

Interviewer: How would your team mates describe you?

Katja: They would say I’m open-minded and creative, but practical. I love working closely with clients, helping them to grow and develop.

Interviewer: What impact have you achieved since you've been with McKinsey?

Katja: I’ve helped organizations to significantly reduce material cost (by 10 million euros), increase reliability in delivery schedules, and reduce handling time (by more than30%). The best part, though, is hearing a client say “thank you” – it’s really humbling to make a difference to individuals.
