Interviewer: What led you to McKinsey?

Ben: I saw a tremendous opportunity to grow personally and to help shape an expanding team. McKinsey already attracts top analytical talent and engages leading companies on all types of projects, including analytics. The offer to help scale new capabilities for the firm was the most exciting opportunity within analytics.

Interviewer: What is the best part of working in operations?

Ben: When I worked in industry, processes held in place by inertia rather than reason frustrated me. Now, I get to help clients change their processes in a matter of weeks. I get to see improvements made in near real-time and feel the impact that has on the lives of real people.

Interviewer: What has been your most memorable engagement at McKinsey?

Ben: My favorite engagement so far was marked by groundbreaking work and a great team. It was the first time we worked with this client on digital operations. We helped them to modernize their business through an infusion of digital apps, process improvements, and advanced analytics. Our diverse team bonded in an incredible way over “blue sky” strategic problem solving sessions, many team dinners, and a great night watching the Cubs historic World Series win.

Interviewer: What are you passionate about outside of work?

Ben: My new obsession is improv. I recently started training at The Second City every Saturday. I spend three hours experiencing a mix of sidesplitting laughter and healthy awkwardness. I also absolutely love wildlife documentaries, so I have been glued to the TV every Saturday night this spring watching Planet Earth 2.
