Emerging Scholars – Ari, Columbia Business School

Ari, one of our first Emerging Scholars, has been with McKinsey for more than two years. Read about his journey and consider applying for this introductory program today.

The Emerging Scholars program was a great opportunity to explore post-MBA careers and meet many of the people who make McKinsey a remarkable place to work – all before starting school.

I was part of one of the first Emerging Scholars program (the 2013 class), and it was definitely a valuable experience – one which helped me make my decision to summer with the firm and then join full-time.

I vividly remember our celebration weekend in Chicago during which I learned about life at McKinsey. It was a fantastic opportunity to speak with different people – from summers to partners – at McKinsey. Each one provided different examples of the meaningful work they do and why I should join McKinsey.

The mentorship I received through the program was very helpful. Having a direct contact – a mentorat the firm who could answer my questions and share advice – was extraordinarily useful throughout the application process.

Now that I’ve been with the firm more than two years, I am often asked for tips regarding the application process for Emerging Scholars and full-time roles. My advice, first and foremost, is apply! McKinsey is an amazing place to work. Second, whether you are submitting an application or participating in an interview, just be yourself and be transparent. There are many paths into the firm (and while at the firm our motto is ’make your own McKinsey“), so allow your true interests and passions to shine through during the application process. I highly recommend applying for the Emerging Scholars program. It is a phenomenal opportunity to learn about the things that make McKinsey such a special and rewarding place.
